Travel Tales

Back in the hood after last weeks marathon cross country drive on work. Headed to Kandy on Monday and then from there went directly to Galle!! It’s probably the longest drive I’ve taken locally. Albeit a really hectic working week, we did manage to find some time for some fun stuff as well. I’ll let the pictures do the talking πŸ™‚

Kandy is dead by 7pm! We got to there well past 7pm on Monday evening and these were our dinner options. It was this or....

...this. We settled on the previous. Pilla style Car-al-fresco dining!! Kottu and Plain Tea πŸ™‚

Mineral Water for the night. Booking a hotel in Kandy was insane. Every single place we'd normally stay were packed to capacity. Good coz that means the tourism is booming. The hotel we eventually managed to book didn't have water in the rooms. Hence...

Enroute to Galle the next afternoon. The Matara-Colombo highway nearing completion.

Cheese Roti in Hikka. Dinner - day 2 πŸ™‚

Closenberg - Galle. A colonial Dutch bungalow converted into a charming mid-range hotel. We didn't stay here, but came up just to check out the view. Isn't this straight off a Microsoft screen saver? πŸ™‚

Closenberg contd. It is said that the Dutch owner back in the day constructed this building in a way that he had a 360 degree view of the Ocean wherever he stood.

Yacht harbour - Galle. Rumour has it that MR has BIG plans for Galle and the harbour to bring in more tourist arrivals.

No trip is complete without a little drama! My car a/c decided to go bust in the middle of the blazing afternoon heat!! Turned out my air filter needed to change. The white is how it needs to look like! Mine was anything but white! πŸ˜€

Chocolate Roti!!!!!!!

More Chocolate Roti!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ˜€

Lunch - Day 4 in Unwatuna. The view compensated for the not so great food.

Sunset in Hikka - Day 4

Kurumbaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! Enroute to Colombo - Day 5

My friend pretty much did all the driving and couldn't wrap his head around this!!! It's versatile!! Nuff said! πŸ˜›

This little critter kept us entertained and singing on our 450Km+ journey. Bless his heart (If he had one) πŸ™‚

..and back home, life went back to normal. *bugging darling mercilessly πŸ˜‰

Of Houses and Weddings

The wedding planning is not stressful Not one bit. Doing up a house and wedding planning together is absolute bliss πŸ™‚

drama aside πŸ˜‰ things are going well. I’ve basically worked my way through and finalised things to a great deal;

  • Theme – White Lotus and Candles/Fusion Kandyan
  • Colours – Champagne,Ivory Osari with the veil! I can’t wait to see how the designs work out! The bridesmaids will have an interesting combo of biscuit colour with vintage lace 3/4 sleeve jackets with a lace and silk mixed bodice. Their osari pota will be out of beads and not fabric. I’m still debating their hair arrangements though :S torn between flowers and a strand of beads woven through the hair… Something tells me I’ll go with the flowers… I dunno… suggestions?
  • Bouquets – Mine’s gonna be a simple straightforward posy of white roses. The bridesmaids will carry a sheaf of Lotus and the two little girls will have a lotus ball and ribbon arrangement around their wrists πŸ™‚
  • Cake box – Will be a little clay pot covered with fabric.

The poruwa ceremony is at 6.34pm and we’re supposed to be ready and waiting for it by 6pm!! With church barely finishing at 5.30pm, it’ll be one mad dash from the church to the hotel and I foresee no time for touch ups :S Let’s hope my face doesn’t resemble a shiny disco ball!! πŸ˜€

No going away outfit coz we both want to actually be there and ENJOY the evening! and I’m insisting that my retinue get shoes that are comfortable to wear for a good 10-12 hours as opposed to being fashionable. Simpler the better πŸ™‚ My shoes are gonna be practical slipper type ones with a comfy back strap to prevent them from flying off!!! πŸ™‚

The House

Renovations at the new place have started and will go on for the next 4-5 months. Right now darling and I are in the middle of juggling construction workers, architects, municipality officials, painters, masonry guys, electricians, flooring people, wood work guys, carpenters and also running about getting fittings and decor/furniture finalised. It’s weird at times coz sometimes we’d go for a wedding related appointment like flowers and then run to check out bathroom fittings!! AND WE’RE GETTING RAIN SHOWERS FOR THE BATHROOMS!!!!!!!! I adore rain showers!! and the way the water completely envelops you!!! πŸ˜€ Delilah hasΒ  already threatened darling saying that she’s gonna come over to use our rain showers. I think he kinda dreads the two of us combo, especially with him being outnumbered!!! But he’s got his cheerleader club too!! complete with pom-poms!! πŸ˜‰ (Yes Mr Cheerleader, I’m referring to u πŸ™‚ )

I’m planning to do up the entertainment area which is on a mezzanine floor inΒ  movie theater style for darling so that he can have all his hi-tech gadgets and Tv and what nots. Furniture include a sofa bed, black leather bean bags and some contemporary lounge-y pieces which I need to figure. Thinking of doing up the walls in that section in Slate Grey coz I felt black and red is getting a bit cliched… Yes? No? But there will be one piece of red furniture for sure πŸ™‚ That plus a couple of fibre glass or fabric floor lamps and the place will I’m guessing be easy-chill-and-lounge-in-the-evening-with-a-movie ish πŸ™‚ I hope he likes it!It’s gonna be his ‘area with the beer & boys’ πŸ™‚

The rest of the house will be pastel. Predominantly white, beige and rustic colours. Minimal is the way forward again! and lamps! gotta have them lamps!!!

Have a good week everybody! Am off to Kandy tomorrow and then onto Galle for the rest of the week πŸ™‚

Valentines

V-day this year was eventful, to put it mildly! So the Fiance had ordered a bouquet of flowers on Kapruka and had given specific instructions to have it delivered to my office by 12 noon since he knew I had to go out for a meeting and wouldn’t be back for the rest of the day.Β  I left office past 3pm and hadn’t received anything, which I knew was odd.Β  So I thought he had other plans since we were meeting up for dinner later that evening.

Having finished my meeting around 5.45pm I was driving back home and got a call from Kapruka saying they had a delivery for me and that they were at my office. I told them that I had already left work and as a favour would meet them halfway to collect. To cut a long story short, they never got back to me, Kapruka admins didn’t pick up the line and needless to say my fiance was livid! The flowers eventually did arrive yesterday (16th), surprisingly intact and in good condition. They’d also agreed to re-fund the amount and profusely apologized for having messed up, citing a huge number of deliveries since it was Valentines (Yes, I rolled my eyes there)

The same thing happened to two other friends of mine. So I guess Kapruka is slipping and their customer service sure isn’t all that good. You’d expect them to be better organised with increased capacity on days like this. But then again, they do happen to be the only online order-delivery service available in SL, discounting HSBC’s concierge service. My Fiance swears NEVER to use them again πŸ™‚ But all wasn’t lost, coz the rest of the day went as planned with no drama. We went out for dinner and had a good laugh over his gift! I gave him an old fashioned alarm clock that had a picture of a cartoon body builder with “SEXY BOY” slapped across πŸ˜‰ His message on the bouquet card, for me, was the best gift of all. It read “… and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my days with you”

πŸ™‚ Yeah, we’re corny like that… and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I have a job…

that lets me have lunch in hikka once in a way, at my discretion πŸ™‚

and I’ll be heading to Galle once more in a weeks time for 4 days πŸ™‚ We’ve decided to stay in Hikka to capitalise on our good fortune πŸ™‚

Jealous? Yeah, I thought so too!
